Dear Friends,
Greetings from your Area Chairman.
As the year draws to a close, it is usually time for retrospection and ruminating over the months that have gone by. For Area 9 and for me, this has been an eventful year. It is thanks to the support and encouragement received from all quarters that I will be taking over the mantle as the Area Chairman. It is indeed an honour and a privilege.
Congratulations to Bhavesh and his team on a successful year. As we embark on to the next year, I hope the transition is seamless. Year on year, let us continue the spirit and vibrancy of Area 9.
We would like to assure you that the coming year promises to be a year that will see the culmination of both conventional tabling which is intrinsic to us and contemporary ideas that shall lead the way forward. From our side, we will make every attempt to build synergies by ensuring a transparent and participative style. We look forward to your unstinted support and proactive involvement in every aspect of tabling.
At Area 9, we plan to build upon the National Theme ‘Dream On’. The key to happiness is having dreams…and the key to success is making dreams come true.
Looking forward to a great year together… a year of simplistic yet exemplary tabling.
Best always,
Sudhanshu Shah
Below are excerpts from the Area Chairmans speech at the Area AGM which took place on August 29 & 30, 2009 at Hyderabad.
“Friends, All of us assembled here today are connected…strongly connected… through this movement called tabling…the strength of the ties may differ, the length of the association may vary….but we are connected. What brings us together is the need for fellowship, for belonging and acceptance among equals. What keeps us together is the sense of accomplishment, the pride in doing something meaningful and just plain strong friendship.
To me, tabling came naturally. There was no stopping me from the word go. I loved the camaraderie and the zeal, the warmth and the fun. The other day, I heard my wife Geetika in conversation with someone, mentioning our early days in tabling. She was 2 months pregnant when we had our first contact meet. In some sense, that’s why, our daughter Anvi has been a true tabling baby. Ever since her birth, she has been a regular at every tabling do. In fact you could say, she learnt dancing before she was even walking thanks to all the parties that she accompanied us to. What was amazing was the ease with which our family got enfolded in the warmth of this movement.
What was it about tabling???
I think… it is because Tabling takes you away from the humdrum of life, it gives you the much needed respite from your regular routine, it gives you a forum to express yourself to like-minded peers, but more than anything else… it forces you to be a better person and allows you to live a fuller life.”
“As goes for all MBA types who have a love for jargons like 4Cs, 4Ps, 7S, etc. so here I have my own 3Cs for you to ponder over. At an individual level, I think we need to fight the 3Cs within us – the lack of Confidence, the lack of Commitment and the typical ‘Chalta hai’ attitude. What holds us back is really something within us. Let us come out of the occasional inertia, believe in ourselves, and give it our best and move from being just good to great.”
“Leadership is action, not position. Leadership in tabling is not about the quote-unquote ‘leadership’ as we know it. It is more on the lines of being a facilitator, a co-ordinator and to some extent a mentor. I read somewhere that “A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader; a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves”. But for me, I think that working with a GREAT team is going to be MY biggest motivation factor.”
